USL Membership

Officials must be members of US Lacrosse (USL).  USL membership provides benefits and coverage to officials who have completed training requirements, achieved a rating, and are members of a Local Board.  Click here to register your USL membership.

Training

Officials must have a strong command of the rules, procedures, and responsibilities to safely and efficiently administer the game at all levels.  Our board offers training sessions consisting of classroom instruction and field instruction. Additional professional development opportunities are available annually on the local, regional, and national levels.  Go to Training page for more information.

The training sessions will cover the rules, procedures, and responsibilities in detail, but candidates are expected to take responsibility to learn and internalize the knowledge and skills required of women’s lacrosse officials.

Performance Rating

Officials must pass a field performance rating in order to officiate the different levels of lacrosse.  The performance rating evaluates the officials’ application of knowledge, skills, and judgment necessary to safely administer games at the associated level.

Training sessions prepare new officials for the Apprentice rating (Junior varsity and below). Performance ratings will be conducted during March pre-season scrimmage events for Apprentices. Apprentice ratings are renewed annually.
